The problem is that all is relative. People will pay one price for gold today but not tomorrow, same for stocks, currencies etc. All of these can be manipulated. Although gold has many good points, technology may make it less scarce, prices can be manipulated, govt's can confiscate etc etc.
I think that one of Buffett's old lines about buying a part of a business is worth heeding. If you buy a stock with a yield, of a well run company that should continue to thrive, then if you are satisfied with the yield and prospects of greater yields in the future, then this stock has worth because of the yield. Forget what happens to the price if it is still doing good business and has continued to have an appropriate yield. I think some small companies that have not paid a dividend yet but have good potential of eventually having a dividend are worth considering also.
This is not to say that gold is of no use, but more to point out that some stocks are worth buying because if there is serious inflation, the earnings and the yield should increase and compensate for the loss of the dollar's purchasing power. No yield and you are counting on a greater fool coming to take the stock off your hands.

the problem of financial markets is there is noe escape from the perpetual scams perpetrated on us.
I am ckecking out of the fraud.
Physical gold and silver cannot be scammed. they are nobody's counterparty risk. they are sovereign wealth.
That's the only option left
