I've been trying to figure out how to interpret all of the public statements coming from the Chinese about the dollar. There are public statements trashing the dollar, a private leak saying they love the dollar, and then the opposite a week later. Obviously, if they're definitely planning to ditch dollars, it's completely illogical to drive the dollar down before they do it. But on the other hand, how could they not want to ditch dollars if they're anticipating an inflationary outcome? Are they deliberately fostering confusion about the dollar to obscure the obvious inflationary trend? And are they working in cooperation with our government with all these statements, or is this intended to be hostile and/or used as leverage against us? I'm having a real problem discerning the motivation of the Chinese here (btw, I'm not confused about the future inflationary outcome for the dollar, so that's not what I'm getting at with this question). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
